16U Heat Bronzed in Chatham

The 16U Heat boys’ team made their way down to Chatham on a slippery Saturday morning for the first tournament of the year. In round robin play, the Heat went 1-1 after a 2-0 win versus the Great Whites (Sharks) and a tough loss in 3 sets against Stratford Volleyball Club. Seeded second in their pool going into the quarter finals, the Heat faced a very good 15U Chatham Ballhawks. With solid defense, the Ballhawks tested the boys’ patience and persistence. After a close first set (26-24), the Heat closed out the match with a 25-17 win to take the match 2-0. The win put the Heat in a semi-final against a familiar rival from the prior year: MAC. With strong blocking and attacking, the Heat took an early lead in the first set but couldn’t close out the back and forth affair, losing 25-23 in the first set. The intense second set mirrored the first with great defense and transition play from the Heat. Unfortunately, an experienced MAC team maintained their slight advantage and the Heat lost the match 2-0 after dropping the second set 25-23. The Heat showed their perseverance in rallying back after the close defeat to win the bronze medal against a solid Waterloo Tigers group.

Each player made a significant contribution to the team’s success on Saturday and coaches Hussein and Corey were very pleased with everyone’s play. Thanks goes out to parents, friends and family who were there cheering on the boys.
